Las Vegas is a busy place, with plenty to do for people of all ages, including those over 65. Seniors often need more opportunities to get out of the house and be social, educate themselves, and have some fun. The Las Vegas caregivers at Home Care Assistance have put together a list of 4 upcoming local events your elderly loved one might enjoy attending.
1. Free Senior Lunch
Reformation Lutheran Church offers free hot meals for seniors from 2:30pm to 3:30pm every Monday through Friday. Seniors 60 and older are free, and younger people can join the fun for a suggested donation of $5. The Culinary Academy of Las Vegas prepares every meal, and the menus change daily. This event is perfect if your loved one is living on a fixed income or needs more socialization in his or her life.
2. The Las Vegas Writers Group Meeting
Writing is one of the best activities your loved one can partake in to help keep his or her mind sharp. This group offers an opportunity to share the love of writing with others while working to increase writing skills for $5 each meeting. The group meets monthly at the Tap House at 5589 w. Charleston Blvd, with the next meetings coming up on September 15th and October 20th.
3. Facebook 101 for Seniors
The Las Vegas Library offers a free class twice a month to help seniors learn Facebook skills and connect with family and friends through social networking. The next class starts at 10:30am on September 27th and runs until 12:30pm. To attend, your loved one should have some basic computer skills and an active email account or phone number. Registration must be completed on the library’s website to attend.
4. The 5th Annual SPOTLIGHT Spectacular
On Saturday, October 1st from 10:00am to 3:00pm, the SPOTLIGHT Spectacular will be offering a variety of events completely free of charge and open to the public. Over 100 exhibitors will be present to offer resources, programs, products, and services for veterans, seniors, and their families. The event will include drawings, free wellness checks, and live music and entertainment, and is located at the Orleans Hotel and Casino.
